Charles Garner is an Executive Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Island Capital. Mr. Garner has primary responsibility for legal and operating matters at Island Capital, as well as for the debt financing activities of Island Capital and certain of its affiliates. Mr. Garner is President of Island Global Yachting Ltd., an affiliate of Island Capital, and works with various other affiliates of Island Capital on their financing and acquisition activities.
Prior to joining Island Capital in April 2004, Mr. Garner was President of CityNet Telecommunications, Inc., where he coordinated the successful financial restructuring of this specialized telecommunications construction company. Prior to joining CityNet, Mr. Garner held various executive positions at IDT Corporation, a publicly traded telecommunications provider (NYSE: IDT). Among these positions, Mr. Garner served as Chief Executive Officer of IDT Ventures, Inc., where he was responsible for the management of all non-telecom operations (including broadband internet services, the CTM Brochure Display subsidiary and various technology start-ups). These businesses produced approximately $175 million in annual revenues. Mr. Garner also was responsible for M&A activities of IDT, including the acquisition of the material telecom assets of Winstar Communications from bankruptcy and serving as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Winstar for an interim period following the acquisition.
Mr. Garner began his career at as an attorney with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York. During his 12 years there, Mr. Garner rose to become a partner in the Corporate/Banking Department and represented clients such as The Chase Manhattan Bank, Credit Suisse First Boston, GE Capital, Insignia Financial Group, Seagram and Universal Studios.
Mr. Garner received a JD degree, cum laude, in 1987 from New York University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Political Science and Urban Studies. |
