Charles Cooney is the Robert T. Haslam (1911) Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A member of MIT’s faculty since 1970, Charles is faculty director of the Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation, co-director of the Program on the Pharmaceutical Industry, and faculty director of the Consortium on Advanced Manufacturing for Pharmaceuticals. He sits on boards of directors for Genzyme, BioProcessors, and Biocon, Ltd. (India), was a member of the BP Technical Advisory Council from 2001-2007, and chaired the FDA Advisory Committee for Pharmaceutical Science from 2004-2006. Charles has published more than 300 research papers, holds more than 30 patents, and has co-authored or edited five books. He received his BA in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his MA and PhD in biochemical engineering from MIT. |
