Charles Bell is the Programs Director for Consumers Union, based in Yonkers, NY. He works closely with Consumers Union's advocacy offices in California, New York, Texas and Washington, DC on a wide range of consumer policy issues, including prescription drugs, financial privacy and health care restructuring. He oversees the Consumer Reports WebWatch project, which works to improve the credibility of information on Internet. He leads and coordinates issue-based fundraising for grant-funded projects on the environment, health care and consumer education. He also manages the Colston E. Warne Program, which provides financial and technical support for U.S. and international consumer organizations.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Antioch University, Seattle, Wash. He studied at the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University, Salem, Ore., and is currently pursuing a master's degree in international business at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.
Prior to joining Consumers Union in 1989, Charles worked as a research assistant for the Community Economic Stabilization Corporation, a nonprofit consulting firm in Portland, Oregon that promotes employee ownership. He also served as a research analyst at Northwest Environmental Advocates; executive director of the Oregon Fellowship of Reconciliation; and distribution coordinator for Oregon Food Share, a statewide anti-hunger program. |
