Mr. Shoemate retired as chairman, president and chief executive officer of Bestfoods in 2000, having been elected president and a member of the board of directors of Bestfoods in 1988 and chief executive officer and chairman in 1990. He currently is a director of CIGNA Corp. and ChevronTexaco.
