CHARLES J. ANDRES, Jr., Ph.D. is a patent agent in the firm’s Chemical Practice Group. Dr. Andres' current focus is patent preparation and prosecution. He has 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, conducting research and leading early phase programs at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute. While at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Andres won a Presidential Award for his work in automated high-throughput synthesis. He led the early phase effort of a program which recently produced a small molecule clinical candidate.
Dr. Andres received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Virginia, where he focused on using synthetic organic chemistry as a tool to understand biological systems. As a postdoctoral fellow at Colorado State University, he conducted research into novel chemical reactions and developed synthetic methodology that led to the successful total syntheses of several biologically active heterocyclic natural products. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in Chemistry from Hillsdale College.
Dr. Andres has published 15 papers in peer reviewed journals and co-authored 5 posters on different aspects of his research. He is named as an inventor on one issued U.S. patent and several pending U.S. patent applications. Dr. Andres is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a past member of the Editorial Board of Molecular Diversity and is a member of the American Chemical Society, Organic and Medicinal Divisions. Dr. Andres is a J.D. candidate at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. |
