Charles Sherman brings more than forty years of experience to the firm in a broad range of intellectual property and general corporate matters from governmental, private practice and corporate environments. Mr. Sherman’s early experience was as a Patent Examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has spent ten years in private practice as a partner in a Connecticut intellectual property firm and as the Director of Practice Management for a major New York intellectual property firm.Mr. Sherman was Assistant Chief Patent and Trademark Counsel for Gulf & Western Industries, Inc. in New York. There he was responsible for protection and enforcement of the trademarks, which supported Paramount Pictures’ merchandise licensing program for STAR TREK, HAPPY DAYS and LAVERNE & SHIRLEY properties. He also negotiated a license agreement with a major aerospace company for alternate technology proposed for use in building the fuel tanks for the first Space Shuttle.As General Patent and Trademark Counsel for Wickes Companies, Inc. in New York, Mr. Sherman directed all legal activities connected with the worldwide apparel-licensing program for the CATALINA and COLE OF CALIFORNIA brands.Mr. Sherman spent the last thirteen years prior to joining the firm, as the Senior Counsel in charge of intellectual property, licensing and operations for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation in Louisville, Kentucky. There he managed all aspects of the international side of a major patent litigation and achieved a landmark decision from the European Commission on Human Rights declaring portions of the Dutch Patent Law to be in violation of provisions of the European convention on Human Rights.Mr. Sherman is a member of the American Bar Association, The Louisville Bar Association, an emeritus member of the Assocation of Corporate Patent Counsel, and the International Trademark Association. |
