Charles E. Levin is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. As a member of the Firm’s Corporate Department, he concentrates his practice in representing financial institutions in transactions and restructuring situations, and with respect to financial products, as well as advising larger and middle market companies in mergers and acquisitions, financing and general corporate matters.
Chuck has represented, as lead or senior counsel, companies valued from below $1 million to over $2 billion on financings, acquisitions and joint ventures. His secured lending and joint venture practice has included numerous financings and structurings of companies and ventures, not only in manufacturing and distribution, but also in areas such as health care, government contracts, technology, energy, agriculture, aviation and involving other less typical industries, issues and structures.
Chuck is a member of both the Firm’s Hedge Fund and Financial Products, Trading and Derivatives Practice Groups. Drawing on long and deep financing industry experience, Chuck extensively negotiates and documents financial derivative and other synthetic investment arrangements, including credit derivatives, collateralized debt warehouse arrangements, total return swaps, equity swaps and related documents, on behalf of hedge funds, insurance and other financial service clients.
Chuck also advises financial industry and large corporate clients on distressed debtor situations for purposes of their trading, credit extension and other activities.
Chuck’s practice also includes international commercial, financing and joint venture transactions, including trade export and import deals, multi-national financings, joint ventures with European manufacturers, distributors and financial institutions, and project financings in the health care and energy fields.
In peer review organization ratings, Chuck has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer in Mergers and Acquisition, as an Illinois Leading Lawyer in Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Finance, International Business and Trade and Securities and Venture Finance, and as a leading banking and finance lawyer in Chambers Global.
While in law school, Chuck was a member of the board of editors of the Northwestern University Law Review. Chuck is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Section), the Chicago Bar Association (Commercial Transactions Committee), and the Commercial Finance Association Education Foundation (Founders Leadership Counsel).
