Charles E. Dietz is our Senior Vice President of Research/Development and Strategy, and Chief Technology Officer. He is responsible for the strategic review and development of new technology.
Charlie started in the cable industry when he was still in college in 1969, when vacuum tubes were the cutting-edge technology. He, like Ted Turner, says he was cable before cable was cool. In 1973, Charlie realized cable was the future, and he wanted to be a part of it. He started working at Vision Cable Communications in New Jersey, where one of his first jobs was launching a brand-new cable network called HBO.
Through the next few decades, Charlie saw cable technology focus on increasing bandwidth to accommodate the launch of new cable channels. In the ‘90s, fiber optic technology revolutionized the cable landscape and allowed for more reliable service and ways to target content to customers. Interactive services shortly followed, and Charlie led our technical team in pioneering the first commercial launch of On Demand TV and interactive television in the industry. This was followed by high-speed Internet and telephone services.
Charlie worked at Vision Cable until 1995; he served as Vice President of Technical Operations from 1988 through 1991 and became Vice President of Operations in 1991. Charlie joined Insight in 1996 as Senior Vice President, Engineering, and was promoted to CTO in December 2001. He never would have thought that a part-time job in college would lead to a 36-year career. |
