Charles D. Johnston became President and CEO of Citi Smith Barney on January 1, 2005. He is responsible for one of the nation’s leading private wealth management businesses, with nearly $1.2 trillion in client assets, approximately 600 branch offices and 13,000 Financial Advisors across the country.
Charlie started in the business in 1978 as a Financial Consultant with Merrill Lynch in Chicago before joining Lehman, Kuhn, Loeb in 1982. Two years later, he became a Sales Trainer at Shearson, a job he worked in for a year before becoming a Branch Manager in Jacksonville, Florida. Seven years later he was promoted to Regional Sales Manager of the South Central Region, and then Regional Director of the Mountain States Region. In November 1998, he became Divisional Director for the Midwest Division, a post he held until late 2003. He became Director of the Private Client Branch System (December 2003) and was named to the Smith Barney Management Committee in November 2004.
Charlie has served on the board of the Securities Industry Association and is on the Global Wealth Management Operating Committee.
He has a bachelor of arts from Purdue University. |
