Dr. Charles C. Yang is vice president of Lyondell Chemical Company and chairman and president of Lyondell Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong.
Since 1985, Yang has provided leadership to Lyondell’s Asian expansion, initiating a polyol project in Indonesia, establishing a China sales office and acquiring sales and manufacturing operations in Taiwan. In 1990, he managed the South Asia business from Singapore and then in 1992 relocated to Hong Kong with responsibility for East Asia operations and region-wide marketing. Yang was appointed president of the Asia Pacific region in 1999.
He started his career in 1970 as research and development engineer with Halcon International, which was then partnered with ARCO Chemical Company in the joint venture Oxirane. In 1977 he transferred to Oxirane, which was acquired in 1981 by ARCO Chemical. In 1998, Lyondell acquired ARCO Chemical, which is now operating globally under the Lyondell name.
Born in China and raised in Taiwan, Yang earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the National Taiwan University and holds a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Connecticut. |
