Description of Practice:
Charlene is an associate in our San Diego office, where she practices employment law. Her practice focuses on employment disputes, including wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, constructive discharge, wage and hour cases, and other employment-related matters. She represents employers at all levels of state and federal court and before various governmental agencies, including the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Charlene also provides preventative counseling and advice to employers and management on issues involving employee discipline and discharge, disability discrimination laws, and family leave and medical leave acts. Her experience includes drafting employee handbooks, employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, severance agreements, and proprietary rights agreements. In addition, Charlene guides employers through reduction-in-force programs, including compliance with state and federal laws such as the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
Charlene is a member of the State Bar of California, the Employment Law Section of the San Diego Bar Association, and the Labor and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association. She is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in California.
Educational History:
Charlene received her B.A. in political science from the University of Missouri - St. Louis in 1995. She earned her J.D. from the University of Kansas in 2002, where, upon graduation, she was honored with nomination into the Order of the Coif. While at the University of Kansas, Charlene served as a staff member for the Kansas Law Review. |
