Dr. Chand R. Viswanathan completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Madras in India, and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degree from UCLA in 1959 and 1964, respectively. He has been a member of faculty in the UCLA School of Engineering since 1962, and is now the Distinguished Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at UCLA. Dr. Viswanathan has taught courses both in his own field of expertise, which is solid state electronics, and in other related fields such as electromagnetics and circuits. He has also consulted and also taught numerous in-house courses for the last forty-years with various corporations such as Hughes, Rockwell, Digital Equipment Corporation and Eastman Kodak Company. He has published more than 180 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings and has carried out research in low temperature electronics, thin oxide integrity, device characterization, defect studies and VLSI technology. His research has been recognized through several awards and honors, such as the IEEE Centennial Medal Award and the IEEE Fellowship Award.
