Sister Catherine McGroarty, RSM, is a member of the Leadership Team of the Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic Community. She joined the CHP Corporate Member and board of trustees in 1998 and serves as chair of the Corporate Member.
Prior to her community leadership role, Sister Catherine served as president and CEO of Mercy Hospital, Port Huron, Mich. Her previous positions in healthcare administration include serving as interim president and CEO, Mercy Hospital, Port Huron, and Mercy Health Care in Johnstown, Pa.; administrative resident, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and Samaritan Health Center, Detroit, Mich.; administrative fellow, Sisters
of Mercy Health Corporation, Farmington Hills, Mich.; consultant, St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, Georgetown, Guyana, South America; and director of nursing, Mercy Hospital, Scranton, Pa.
Sister Catherine began her healthcare career as a staff nurse at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, and also cared for terminally ill patients as a staff nurse at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from College Misericordia, where she later served as a nursing instructor, and she received a master’s degree in nursing administration from Boston University and a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan.
She is a member of numerous civic and professional organizations and serves on the board of directors of College Misericordia, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, the Mercy Center Nursing Unit in Dallas, Pa. and Catholic Youth Center (CYC), Wilkes-Barre, Pa. |
