Professional Profile
Ms. Wieman´s practice focuses on environmental litigation, administrative and regulatory compliance matters. She assists clients in obtaining environmental permits, advises clients on environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and represents clients in administrative hearings. In addition, Ms. Wieman has litigated matters implicating a wide range of federal and state environmental laws, including matters under the federal "Superfund" law (CERCLA), the Clean Water Act, the Porter-Cologne Water Quality Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and nuisance and trespass law, and has assisted clients with environmental due diligence for business transactions.
Ms. Wieman also has significant experience handling product liability, toxic tort, and business and commercial disputes for clients in a broad range of industries, including petroleum, energy, and life sciences. For example, Ms. Wieman represented multiple petroleum companies in litigation involving purported contamination of groundwater throughout California with MtBE, and defended a food flavorings manufacturer against product liability and toxic tort claims brought in state and federal courts in Iowa and Ohio. In addition, Ms. Wieman represented several energy clients in lawsuits against the federal government involving breach of contract claims in connection with federal obligations to accept and remove spent nuclear fuel.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Wieman was in the Litigation group at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. During law school, Ms. Wieman was a legal intern with the Region 1 Headquarters of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Boston, Massachusetts.
