Catherine L. Garvey is a partner in the firm’s Chicago office and has focused her practice in the defense of health care providers and institutions in medical malpractice and professional negligence litigation. Ms. Garvey’s nursing background in the areas of general pediatrics and oncology brings a unique perspective in the evaluation and handling of these cases. In representing a variety of hospitals, clinics, and health care professionals (including physicians, dentists, nurses, and paramedics), she has defended lawsuits involving claims of professional and general negligence, and has had trial experience as both first and second chair in defending these claims. She has represented practitioners in professional licensure hearings. Ms. Garvey has also provided recommendations regarding issues of risk management, contributed to the development of hospital policies, and lectured on legal issues affecting health care providers in a variety of settings. Ms. Garvey is a graduate of DePaul University School of Law, where she was awarded a certificate in Health Law and served as editor of the Journal of Health and Hospital Law. Prior to and during law school, she worked as a nurse in the areas of hematology/oncology and pediatrics. In April of 2005, Ms. Garvey traveled to Lima, Peru with Copradeli, U.S.A. to work with children in schools and clinics. She actively participates with this organization in fundraising and community awareness.
