Catherine C. Lee is corporate secretary and counsel for Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services. The Sempra Energy companies' more than 13,500 employees serve more than 29 million consumers worldwide. As corporate secretary and counsel, Lee coordinates and records all meetings of the board of directors and its committees, and serves as a liaison between the directors and the chief executive officer of the company. Before this job, Lee was a corporate attorney with Sempra Energy, handling, among other things, corporate-governance matters, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital financings for the company's subsidiaries. Lee also served as corporate secretary for San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Co. from 2003 to 2004. Lee joined Sempra Energy in 2001 as an attorney from the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, LLP. There, her practice focused on a full range of corporate and securities matters, including corporate formation, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, venture financing, technology licensing, and general business counseling for both public and private companies. Lee has thorough experience with counseling public and private companies in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical-device, software, telecommunications, health care and information-technology industries. Prior to joining Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, Lee was a corporate attorney at Morrison & Foerster, LLP. She has a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law and has a bachelor's degree in economics and international relations from American University, School of International Service.
