Catharine Boschee is a member of the intellectual property group and chairs the firm’s international privacy and data protection practice. Cate works with the firm’s multinational clients to develop and implement global data privacy and security programs and practical solutions to restrictions on international transfers of data. She regularly advises on data privacy and security issues in connection with e-commerce, outsourcing, direct marketing, loyalty programs, franchising, strategic alliances, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and international transactions. Cate works closely with lawyers in the firm’s EU and China offices, and with a carefully selected network of data protection lawyers around the world, to provide full service and global solutions to our multinational clients. Cate spent nine years in-house at Target Corporation, where she was Target’s point person for privacy matters. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional. The clients Cate advises on data privacy and security matters include 3M, Archer-Daniels-Midland, Carlson Companies, Cochlear, Digital River, Fair Isaac, Guidant, Hutchinson Technologies, Johns Manville, Koch Industries, Merrill Corporation, Park Nicollet Health Services, General Mills, ResortQuest International, Cargill, Jones International University, Capella University, Syngenta Corporation A.G., Tennant Company, Quovadx, and a number of non-profit organizations. Cate also acts as special counsel to other law firms, advising their clients on complex data protection issues. Cate also represents U.S. and multinational corporations in the development, acquisition and implementation of Internet-enabled products and solutions. Her clients include software and web developers, ASP service providers, web hosts, data processors, and a wide range of businesses in diverse industries who use Internet-based technology to achieve a competitive edge in a global marketplace. She has significant experience in product development and is often engaged to work closely with the client’s product development team to bring new Internet-based products and solutions to market. Cate has extensive experience with the legal and business aspects of global e-commerce, including online product distribution, retailing, procurement, supply chain management, loyalty programs, financial services, commodity and equity trading, benefits administration, auctions, recruiting, and data management. She represents U.S. and multinational corporations in structuring and negotiating domestic and international technology transactions, including software development, distribution, and licensing agreements, web site development and hosting agreements, ASP (Application Service Provider) arrangements, outsourcing agreements, joint development and marketing agreements, co-branding and strategic alliance agreements, and OEM agreements. Clients Cate has represented in complex technology, e-commerce and outsourcing transactions include Syngenta Crop Protection, Syngenta Seeds, Guidant, Archer-Daniels-Midland, Target, Tennant Company, Carlson Companies, U.S. Bank, Piper Jaffray, Minneapolis Grain Exchange, Capella Education Company, American Express Financial Corporation, ResortQuest International, and United Agri Products.
