Carp is the brains behind Verdict Systems' software development. Of course he also thinks he invented the Internet. After graduating from the prestigious University of California Los Angeles (hint - Ronald Reagan was President), he spent his first decade out of college designing local area networks in such far off places as Seoul, Korea and Irving, Texas. During this period, Carp developed a short temper and a knack for snapping at people. He uses these skills even today. Leaving the networking world in the early 90s, Carp found his true home in computer software development. As the senior Quality Assurance Engineer for a large software developer, he quickly honed his skills at finding problems and annoying a great deal of seasoned professional programmers by pointing out flaws and making "suggestions." As the head developer at Verdict Systems, he now receives the same level of respect from his employees. Contrary to media stereotyping of computer types, Carp does not eat Twinkies nor does he drink Jolt cola. He doesn't even drink coffee anymore. Something to do with "the NEW Carp." We're not really sure what the difference is between the "NEW" Carp and the old one, other than the fact that he isn't as fat, and rarely gets hung over. Luckily he doesn't start in on the martinis until after 5PM. Somewhere. Now that Carp is in his 40's (and suffering from a seemingly un-ending mid-life crisis), he's become especially "pleasant" to be around. No longer content with just finding flaws in his partners, his derision now flows through all levels of the business. When the "strains of Floyd" emanate from his office, the rest of the company tends to take long lunches. Or leave entirely. When Carp isn't in the office (he refuses to travel - something about "the aliens are monitoring my brainwaves from space..."), he spends his time dating super models and studying quantum physics. (OK, he sits at home and watches Buffy the Vampire Slayer repeats.) He also spends a lot of time with Johnny Walker and Charles Tanqueray. He can also be found scouring match.com, lying about his height, his age and his hair. Despite his advancing years, Carp still finds time to join the crew for a little "camaraderie and cocktails" every once and awhile. This affords him the opportunity to talk about himself. Which is why we prefer bars with loud music. |
