Ms. Raines is a partner at Carrington Coleman. Her practice is primarily focused on class actions and other complex business disputes involving, among other things, securities and insurance matters. Prior to attending law school at Southern Methodist University, Ms. Raines was employed at an investment firm in Dallas, Texas, for three years. Ms. Raines obtained numerous securities licenses, as well as the Certified Financial Planner designation. During her employment at the investment firm, Ms. Raines trained registered representatives concerning various aspects of financial planning, created diversified investment portfolios, and published articles regarding various topics pertaining to the financial industry for the firm's monthly newsletter. Ms. Raines' knowledge of various investment products, such as stocks, bonds, options, mutual funds, and limited partnerships, as well as her inside knowledge of the securities industry, enables Ms. Raines to effectively represent investment firm clients. Ms. Raines has experience representing clients in securities class actions involving claims for violations of the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. In addition, she has represented investment firm clients and registered representatives in customer disputes involving issues of churning, unsuitability, misrepresentation, unauthorized trading, breach of fiduciary duty, and violations of state and federal securities acts. She has also represented major insurance companies in premium litigation and multi-state class actions challenging industry practices. Her litigation experience further includes disputes concerning manufacturing contracts, non-competition employment contracts, partnership agreements, life insurance, disability and health insurance policies, the PCS auctions conducted by the Federal Communications Commission, violations of the Visa Rules by issuers, merchants and credit card processors, and a wide assortment of contract claims and business torts.
