Carol L. B. Matthews practices primarily in the areas of trademark, copyright, and unfair competition law, with an emphasis on counseling clients in developing and protecting their intellectual property, and assisting them in doing so. Ms. Matthews has extensive experience in protecting trademarks both domestically and internationally, including enforcement of clients’ rights in their marks through oppositions, cancellations, and negotiations. Her clients cover a broad range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, engineering, alcoholic beverages, motion picture production, insurance, banking, and various consumer products.
Ms. Matthews also has considerable experience in the structuring of license agreements, assignments and acquisitions of intellectual property, protection and enforcement of domain names, and copyright protection for authors’ works.
Ms. Matthews received her LLB from the University of North Carolina in 1970, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1965.
Ms. Matthews is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the District of Columbia Bar. She is a member of the Amercan Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI), and the International Trademark Association (INTA). |
