Dr. Carleton Hsia, Chairman of the Board Dr. Hsia, a former professor of pharmacology and biochemistry at the University of Toronto, is a pioneer in the blood substitute field. He co-founded and until1992 served as Vice President of Research and Development for Hemosol, a public Canadian biotechnology company that developed blood substitutes based on Dr. Hsia's inventions. Dr. Hsia, whose inventions are patented worldwide, founded SynZyme Technologies Inc. in 1992 and SynZyme Technologies LLC in 1998 and has served as the Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since then. He is the principal investigator on numerous peer-reviewed NIH SBIR grants and DOD contracts totaling over $11 million. He has also raised over $5 million in private funding for SynZyme in the past. Dr. Hsia earned his Ph.D. at the University of Hawaii in 1968, with a dissertation on the use of nitroxide spin labels in the study of the ligand-binding behavior of immunoglobulin and its relationship to the immune response. He has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and 14 issued patents on CNO technology only. |
