Carl Sell, Marketing Consultant Carl Sell is an internationally recognized leader in the consumer products industry, with 30 years of experience developing some of America s best known and most successful consumer brands. Most recently, Carl has served as president and CEO of Botanical Laboratories, Inc., a venture-backed nutriceutical and nutritional supplements manufacturer. While at BLI, he led the restructuring of the company s business model, brand line-up, organization, and positioned the company to launch an entire new brand of consumer products and expand into a new channel of trade. From 2002-05, Carl worked for Johnson & Johnson as general manager/chief executive of Neutrogena Cosmetics, a $100 million division. During his tenure, Neutrogena Cosmetics exceeded a 52 percent increase market share, entered two new product categories, implemented SAP, and achieved its first year of profitability. From 2000-02, Carl served as president of Color Prelude, a $25 million venture-backed 20 year old international business-to-business provider of consumer product samples for use in major brand advertising. After more than doubling Color Prelude s EBITDA over an 18 month period, he led the successful sale of the company. Carl s extensive business experience began with more than 20 years at Procter and Gamble (P&G), where he held a number of domestic and global leadership roles. During his tenure at P&G, Carl s work included leading brand launches, expansions into new channels and countries, creation of new sales organizations and global project teams, corporate function restructuring, and significant leadership roles in the assimilation of organizations and infrastructures associated with P&G corporate acquisitions. Carl began his career as a staff member of the Gerald Ford administration. Through all these roles Carl has become a passionate student and practitioner of consumer focus techniques as they apply throughout organizations and industries. He has spoken on various aspects of this topic at a number of professional seminars, and has written many articles published in trade and industry periodicals. Carl has served on a number of Professional Boards of Directors, both as member and as board chair. In addition, Carl s significant Non-profit board experience includes serving seven years as a Trustee for the St. Paul s Prep. School system, a 13 year private preparatory academy with more than 2,000 students located in Baltimore. Carl has been a long time member of the American Marketing Association, the American Management Association, as well as associate member of the Cosmetics, Toiletries, and Fragrances Association (CTFA), and the National Association of Chain Drug stores (NACDS). Carl received his Masters of Business Administration in general management (MBA) from Loyola College Graduate School of Business, holds a certificate in Organizational Leadership from the University of Michigan, and is a graduate of the University of Oregon. He has taught undergraduate and graduate Marketing and Sales classes at Portland State University, University of Wisconsin, Illinois State University, Michigan State University, Loyola University, and Franklin & Marshall College. |
