Dr. Blagburn received his Master of Science degree in Parasitology from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI. He received his PhD degree in Parasitology from the University of Illinois under the guidance of Drs. Kenneth S. Todd and Norman D. Levine. While at Illinois he continued his research on the development, enteropathogenesis, and immunobiology of coccidia of murids. He joined the Faculty at Auburn University in 1982. Dr. Blagburn's current research interests focus on AIDS-associated protozoal diseases induced by Cryptosporidium parvum and Toxoplasma gondii, as well as protozoal diseases caused by Eimeria spp., Isospora spp., Hepatozoon americanum, Sarcocystis neurona and Neospora caninum. Dr. Blagburn is the recipient of grants from the United States Department of Agriculture, the National Institutes of Health, the American Foundation for Aids Research, as well as numerous collaborative grants and contracts from industry. Dr. Blagburn has received the Beecham Award for Research.
