E. Byron Hensley, Jr. founded Seniorlink with a dual objective: To provide seniors with the choice to receive care at home and to support family members and their employers in providing eldercare. The model for this business came from The Mentor Network, which Mr. Hensley founded in 1983 to deliver support services to families caring for troubled teens, developmentally disabled adults and family members with head injuries. Mentor now operates in 32 states and generates more than $420 million in annual revenues. It was long before his experience at Mentor, however, that Mr. Hensley conceived Seniorlink’s mission. Mr. Hensley recognized the need for greater options in senior care when he witnessed the sadness and loss of independence suffered by his grandfather when he was moved to a nursing home. Later, Mr. Hensley was confronted by care decisions for his own parents, made even more difficult by the geographic distance that separated them. His resulting belief that every person has the right to age with dignity, including the option to live out his or her life at home was the impetus for Seniorlink’s founding in 2000. |
