Dr. McWilliams is chairman of Tessera Technologies’ board of directors and the company’s Chief Strategy Officer. Tessera is a leading provider of miniaturization technologies for the global electronics industry. During his tenure as President and Chief Executive Officer from 1999 to August 2008, Dr. McWilliams defined Tessera’s growth and profitability strategies and steered the company from an operating loss to a 65 percent cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2002 and 2006. In this new role as Chief Strategy Officer, McWilliams focuses on strategic issues facing the company, including growing its foundational intellectual property (IP) and expanding its presence in the debate over public policy issues involving IP. He has more than 20 years of executive and technical management experience in the semiconductor industry. He has held numerous executive management positions, including senior vice president at Flextronics International, a position he assumed upon Flextronics’ successful acquisition of nCHIP, a multi-chip module packaging company he co-founded and for which he served as CEO and president. Dr. McWilliams has also served as president and CEO at S-Vision, a silicon chip-based display company that he co-founded. He is also on the board of trustees of Carnegie Mellon University. In 2005, he was awarded Ernst & Young’s Northern California Entrepreneur of the Year® award. He holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Carnegie Mellon University. |
