Bruce Burton is a senior managing director in the FTI Forensic and Litigation Consulting practice and is based in Chicago. Mr. Burton formerly led Deloitte Consulting’s Intellectual Asset Management practice and has over 25 years experience providing various kinds of consulting services. Mr. Burton leads the Technology & Intellectual Property Management (TIPM) service offering at FTI. The TIPM service offering helps clients extract value from their intellectual property and related assets by assisting our clients to identify, capture, manage, protect and extract value from their intellectual assets. Value created for IAM clients from successful management of intellectual property and related emerging technologies and assets includes: strategic advantage, revenue enhancement, risk reduction, cost reduction and, in some instances, possible use as a source of financing.
Mr. Burton has particular experience in all phases of technology commercialization including portfolio organization, technology screening, technology assessment, technology marketing and negotiation assistance; Providing IP Strategy and implementation procedures; Performing all aspects of IP due diligence including evaluating business, technical and legal issues; Consulting on IP risk and control issues in developed and emerging markets; Providing IP related M&A assistance, including M&A IP strategy development, target screening, due diligence, transaction mechanics and post merger integration; Best practices and metrics related to IP creation and acquisition, management and protection and value extraction; Valuing IP in a variety of circumstances and for a variety of purposes.
He has testified at trials, arbitrations or depositions, over 70 times, on matters related to intellectual property and involving lost profits and/or financial fact-finding.
He has provided consulting services for companies of all sizes within the following industries: automotive, aviation, bottling, cable television, computers, confectioneries, consumer goods, electricity generation, electronics, franchising, higher education, insurance, manufacturing, medical devices, oil and gas, packaged foods, pharmaceuticals, real estate, semiconductors and telecommunications, among others.
