Bruce has worked with clouds, cloud physics and aircraft since 1974, and has logged hundreds of hours in aircraft studying thunderstorms and winter storms over Arizona, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Montana, Texas and Wyoming. Prior to assuming his present position, he worked for 12 years as the Director of the North Dakota Atmospheric Resource Board, a division of the State Water Commission, and previously worked under the employ of the University of Wyoming, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the State of Montana.
He is an active member and past president of the Weather Modification Association, presently serving as Association Webmaster. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society, and past chair of the Society's Committee on Planned and Inadvertent Weather Modification. He is an affiliate member of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE). He presently chairs the Subcommittee on Hail Suppression for the ASCE Task Committee on Atmospheric Water Management Standards. He also serves on the Hail Committee of the Institute for Business and Home Safety. Mr. Boe serves as a reviewer for the American Meteorological Society, the Weather Modification Association, the American Geophysical Union, the National Science Foundation, and Earth and Sky.
Mr. Boe was an invited participant in a November 2000 workshop on weather modification hosted by the Board on Atmospheric Science and Climate of the National Academy of Sciences, in Washington, D.C. He was one of fourteen delegates invited by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to participate in an international Meeting of Experts on Hail Suppression in South Africa in November 1995.
Bruce was Principal Scientist for the State of North Dakota in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's) Atmospheric Modification Research Program, and coordinated two national-scale thunderstorm research programs: the North Dakota Thunderstorm Project (1989), and the North Dakota Tracer Experiment (1993).
Mr. Boe's technical papers have been published in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, the Journal of Applied Meteorology, the Journal of Weather Modification, and Atmospheric Research. He has presented numerous papers at technical conferences. His work has also been featured in Discover Magazine and Nickelodeon Magazine. |
