Mr. Matson is a shareholder in the Firm’s Bankruptcy Group. His practice involves bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, and secured lending, which includes the representation of financial institutions and other lenders in commercial finance transactions, troubled loan workouts and recovery in chapter 11 and other bankruptcy proceedings. His practice also includes the restructuring of financially troubled companies, including business reorganizations under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. In addition to financial institutions with defaulted loans and financially distressed businesses, Mr. Matson represents a wide range of creditors in Chapter 11 and other bankruptcy cases, including the representation of official committees of unsecured creditors and bankruptcy trustees. Mr. Matson regularly handles other bankruptcy matters ranging from the prosecution and/or defense of fraudulent conveyance, preference and other avoidance claims, to lien priority and complex claim disputes. Mr. Matson frequently teaches continuing legal education seminars and produces articles on Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, troubled loan workouts, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy. He regularly serves as a member of the panel of bankruptcy trustees for the Eastern District of Virginia.
