Brian Jones serves as Managing Director of Mercury Public Affairs in our Washington, DC office.Brian Jones is a Managing Director of Mercury Public Affairs and heads the firm’s Strategic Communications practice.Respected for his management and strategic communications skills, Brian Jones most recently served as the Communications Director for Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign, overseeing the campaign’s messaging, response, regional media, speechwriting and research operations. Jones also served as McCain’s chief spokesperson.Prior to joining the McCain campaign, Jones worked as the Communications Director at the Republican National Committee, where he advised and briefed Chairman Ken Mehlman on a daily basis as well as top White House officials. While at the RNC, he successfully oversaw a 30 person team, leading the National Journal to write that Jones is one of the best managers in the GOP communications business.In 2004, Jones was a part of President Bush’s historic re-election campaign, where he worked as a Senior Communications Advisor and helped to run the campaign’s rapid response and regional media operation. Jones also served as a national spokesperson for the campaign and was part of the Vice President Cheney’s debate-prep team.Before coming on board the Bush-Cheney campaign, Jones previously worked for Mercury Public Affairs in New York City as their Vice President for Polling and Advertising, servicing a broad spectrum of political, non-profit and corporate clients. During the 2002 political cycle, Jones was the Research Director at the National Republican Congressional Committee, leading a team that ran circles around the DCCC’s research staff, according to the National Journal’s Hotline.A veteran of campaigns at the local, state and national level, including John McCain’s 2000 bid for the presidency, Jones was once described by former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman as having, fantastic judgment, the respect of the press, good management skills, creativity and a commitment to excellence.Jones earned his BA from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and MA from the University of Washington in Seattle. He lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife Emily and their daughter Ingrid. |
