Brian Felesky was elected to Suncor's Board of Directors in April 2002. Mr. Felesky is a member of the audit committee and the environment, health and safety committee.
Mr. Felesky is a partner in Felesky Flynn LLP, a tax law specialist firm, located in Calgary. He is professionally involved in acquisitions, mergers, financing and restructuring of public and private corporations, partnerships and trusts, in Canada and internationally. Additionally, Mr. Felesky has been a panelist on two large commercial arbitrations and the mediator of a large multi-suit dispute.
Mr. Felesky is a member of the board of directors and chair of the audit committee of Epcor Power LP. He is also a member of the board of Precision Drilling Corporation and Fairquest Energy Ltd. He serves as vice chair of the Canada West Foundation, co-chair of Homefront on Domestic Violence, and as a board member of the Canadian Unity Council, Calgary Arts Development Authority and the Institute of Modern Art. He is a member of the senate of Athol Murray College at Notre Dame and is on the editorial board of Federated Press’ Canadian Resource Taxation. He is past chairman of University Technologies International, Inc; past co-chair of the United Way of Calgary 2002 Campaign; past governor of the University of Calgary and the Canadian Tax Foundation; past co-chair of the Joint Committee (CBA/CICA) on taxation; past president of the Calgary Bar Association; and past president of the Canadian Bar Association - Alberta.
He has been a member of various government income tax commissions and the vice-chair of the federal government’s GST implementation committee. Mr. Felesky is also the author of several publications and a lecturer in Canada and the United States.
Mr. Felesky received his bachelor of arts degree in 1965 and his bachelor of laws degree in 1968 from the University of Alberta. He was called to the Alberta bar in 1969 and was a founding partner of Felesky Flynn in May 1978.
He is the recipient of various awards including: Distinguished Service from the Law Society of Alberta; Alumni Honour from the University of Alberta; Distinguished Citizen from Junior Achievement; the Queen’s Jubilee Medal. In 2005, he was awarded a Centennial medal by the Province of Alberta and was named a member of the Order of Canada.
