Brian Blonder is a managing director in the FTI Forensic and Litigation Consulting practice and is based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Blonder has been providing litigation and valuation consulting services to clients on more than 200 engagements since 1985. He has extensive experience in intellectual property matters.
Since 1993, more than half of Mr. Blonder’s consulting engagements have involved intellectual property (IP) and intangible assets. Mr. Blonder has participated in well over 75 engagements in which he prepared expert testimony on damages in IP litigation matters. On more than 20 engagements he valued IP and provided IP consulting services in the context of litigation, licensing agreements, transfer pricing, tax-related transactions, joint venture arrangements and IP portfolio management.
Mr. Blonder’s consulting and testimony experience also includes matters involving breach of contract, business interruption and tortuous interference, Robinson-Patman act unfair competition, lender liability, breach of good faith, dealer termination, fraud and misrepresentation. On these matters he has prepared expert testimony to address the impact of transactions, events or actions on the performance of businesses. This included determination of lost profits, price erosion or other damage estimation, analysis of financial performance, review of financial condition, determination of economic viability or unreasonable economic burden, application of cost accounting methodologies, consideration of historical business transactions and application of quantitative analysis.
Mr. Blonder has provided testimony addressing damages and the impact of transactions, events or actions on the performance of businesses for both IP and non-IP related matters through reports, deposition and trial testimony in several different court jurisdictions.
Mr. Blonder has provided consulting services in many industries, including computer hardware, components, software and peripherals; medical products and supplies; pharmaceuticals and biotech; automotive; chemicals; Internet and e-commerce; telecommunications including wireless, cable and satellite; industrial products; retail; and electronics.
Mr. Blonder has authored articles and addressed numerous professional groups on a variety of topics, including damages in intellectual property and other litigation matters, intellectual property valuation, due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, intangible asset metrics, managing intellectual property, irreparable harm and the application of discount and interest rates to damages.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Blonder was a partner in the Financial Advisory Services (FAS) Practice at a Big 5 accounting firm from 1998 to 2001. There he developed the firm’s internal intellectual property training program. He was also a managing director at an IP consulting firm, a budget analyst at a military facility and a computer programmer. |
