Mr. Hayhurst is a Managing Director of The Carlyle Group with a primary focus on U.S. venture and growth capital investments in software, network infrastructure and services. He is based in Washington, DC.
Since joining The Carlyle Group in 1997, Mr. Hayhurst has led many of the U.S. venture capital fund’s software and technology investments. He has worked closely with Carlyle Venture Partner portfolio companies including AnyDay (sold to Palm Computing (Nasdaq: PALM)), Narrative Communications (sold to @Home Corporation), Blackboard (Nasdaq: BBBB), Realeum (sold to First Advantage Corporation (Nasdaq: FADV)), ISR Solutions, Inc. (sold to Stanley Works (NYSE: SWK)), Imagitas (sold to Pitney Bowes (NYSE: PBI) and LVL7 Systems (sold to Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM).
Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Hayhurst worked in the Venture Capital Group of Morgan Keegan, Inc., where he was one of two principal investors. Previously, Mr. Hayhurst served for nine years in the corporate audit and merger & acquisitions services group at Deloitte & Touche.
Mr. Hayhurst is an honors graduate of Rhodes College.
Mr. Hayhurst is on the Board of Directors of Adesso Systems, Compusearch Software Systems, Inc., SchoolNet, Inc. and Sonitrol Holding Corporation, LLC. Mr. Hayhurst is also on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA), an organization of 375 venture capital professionals from 135 firms. He has served as Co-Chairman of the MAVA Capital Connection in 2004 and 2005.
