As Chief Marketing Officer, Brian Chermside is responsible for driving forward Dow Corning’s strategy of putting customer needs at the heart of its business strategy. He brings to his role a strong background in marketing combined with experience in global business and product line management.
Brian joined Dow Corning in 1985, from a variety of marketing positions at Gulf and Western Manufacturing. His early career was in marketing and sales where he was twice recognized as on of Dow Corning’s most outstanding marketers and once recognized as one of the company’s most outstanding sales people. .
He was appointed Electrical and Communications Industry Manager in 1993. In this position, he led Dow Corning into a significant expansion into the fiber optics industry and the electrical transmission and distribution industry. This included forging new technology, product, channel and market strategies that extended silicon-based materials into a variety of new applications.
In 1999 he was named as Global Marketing Director for Life Sciences Business, with responsibility for strategic business planning, marketing and operations to serve the needs of customers in the personal care; home care; health care and food and beverage market sectors globally. Under his leadership, sales grew by some 30% and several new innovative product lines were launched.
His business acumen and marketing insight made him a key player during 2002-3 when Dow Corning embarked on a transformation of the company’s business strategy. This led to the development of a two-brand strategy and the introduction of tailor-made solutions matching customer needs with Dow Corning capabilities.
Brian was named in 2005 as executive director for Dow Corning’s global Expertise Based Industry which provides lubrication and sealant solutions for industrial maintenance and assembly. He was responsible for all aspects of customer relations; sales; technical support; marketing; channel management; product line and technology development.
Brian holds a Bachelor’s degree in business and administration from Central Michigan University and an MBA from Youngstown University. |
