Brian F. Maxted is one of the oil and gas industry's leading explorationists, with an impressive record of billion-barrel discoveries and a quarter-century-long résumé of worldwide experience.
As senior vice president of exploration for Triton Energy, Maxted led a series of discoveries offshore Equatorial Guinea that have demonstrated potential to produce several hundred million barrels of hydrocarbons. Following the sale of Triton to Amerada Hess Corporation in 2001, Maxted oversaw Hess's continued exploration success in Equatorial Guinea and led the redirection of its deepwater strategy in the Gulf of Mexico, which recently has resulted in a number of important finds.
In early 2003, the publication Africa Energy Intelligence recognized Maxted as one of the top 100 oil and gas managers in the Gulf of Guinea. Maxted gave the prestigious Michel T. Halbouty lecture at the 2004 American Association of Petroleum Geologists conference.
In the 1990s, Maxted managed the discovery of several large gas/condensate fields by Carigali-Triton Operating Company in the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area. One of those fields, Cakerawala, is under development.
Earlier in his career, Maxted's tenure with BP took him to exploration assignments in the UK sector of the North Sea, Egypt, Canada, Norway and Colombia. In Colombia, he managed the discovery and confirmation of the giant Cusiana and Cupiagua oil fields.
Educated in England, Maxted holds a master's degree in organic geochemistry from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and a bachelor of science degree in geology from the University of Sheffield. |
