Brett Bachtell is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department and focuses his practice on intellectual property counseling, prosecution and litigation.
Brett has prosecuted patent applications in a variety of technologies, concentrating on electronic and computer technologies. He has prosecution experience in the fields of computer hardware and software, digital and analog circuits, digital communications and medical devices. Brett also has experience in patent and trademark litigation, infringement opinions, patentability opinions, confidentiality agreements and licensing agreements.
During law school Brett served as a law clerk for a full-service intellectual property law firm. Prior to attending law school, he held engineering positions with Motorola Communications System Research Lab.
Brett earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law where he received a Certificate in Intellectual Property, Patent Law. While in law school, he was also a recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Copyrights & Trademarks. Brett earned his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in communications from the University of Illinois. While an undergraduate, he was a teaching assistant in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
Brett is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago.
