Brent serves as managing partner of the firm, overseeing its day-to-day management and executing its strategic initiatives. In addition to his role as managing partner, Brent continues to counsel firm clients on real estate, general corporate, commercial business and finance law. He advises privately held businesses on matters of general real estate and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, business financing, property acquisition, divestiture and development. He also works closely with both borrowers and lenders to facilitate business financings and capitalizations. Brent serves as general counsel and advocate for his corporate and real estate clients, with an extensive background in general real estate and contracting matters; commercial transactions; joint ventures and strategic alliances; corporate structuring; and reorganizations. He facilitates private placements and oversees the necessary securities law compliance for clients ranging from start-up companies to larger, more mature businesses. He also deals with issues of valuation, management and control, and assists clients in buying and selling privately held enterprises. Active with the United Way Services and on the boards of several private companies, Brent also serves on the board of trustees for Bluecoats, Inc., The Union Club of Cleveland and University School. He is a member of the Ohio Business Roundtable, Commission on Economic Inclusion Investment and Growth Task Force, and serves on the board of the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Brent is a President’s Council Associate, a member of the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2003 and the American, Ohio, Cleveland Metropolitan, and Lawyers-Pilots Bar Associations. He was named to the 2005-2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the area of corporate law, and is a member of the Society of Benchers and the Dean’s Advisory Council at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Brent served as a consultant with the Management Advisory Services practice of Laventhol & Horwath in Chicago prior to joining Calfee in 1985. He became a partner in 1993 and was elected to the firm’s executive committee in 1999 and its management committee in 2002. He was elected managing partner of the firm in 2004. |
