I started in the automotive business right out of college working in the service department of a Ford dealership and quickly transferred into the accounting department after a few months. That was back when cashiers had to hand write and calculate repairs orders and title clerks typed finance contracts.
I worked at several other dealers. Two were small stores that provided wonderful opportunities to be involved in major accounting projects and to learn many aspects of the whole dealership. There was one dealership, however, that I stayed for only 10 weeks. I saw many audit issues and gave my notice. Needless to say they are no longer open.
It was then I started my career at Sheehy. I was hired at Sheehy Ford of Springfield in November of 1990 as a Deal Posting Clerk. The GM at that time was Vince Sheehy. In 1992, the Office Manager left, and I just started doing what needed to be done. My work was recognized, and I was given the position!
Vince Sheehy had a vision of consolidating accounting. After the addition of some stores, the Virginia Processing Center (VAPC) was born. In 2001, I became the Office Manager of the VAPC.
Sheehy continued to grow as more stores were being added to the group. In 2004, I was offered a position as the Controller at Sheehy Nissan of Waldorf. In 2006, I was transferred back to the Virginia Processing Center as the Controller for the Processing Center and for Sheehy Ford of Springfield, my home away from home!
What a challenge my years have been. To succeed, all one needs is the desire and ability to take opportunities handed to them. Why have I worked for Sheehy Auto Stores for all these years? My answer is that I want to work for a company that does it RIGHT! |
