Mr. Speer brings over 25 years experience in engineering and technology development to his role as Group Vice President of Apogen Technologies’ Technology Research and Development Group. The Technology R&D Group designs and manufactures electro-optical sensors and systems, high performance medical and military multi-spectral imagers and systems, laser communication systems for submarine and undersea warfare applications, non-lethal weapons and GPS-based devices.
Prior to joining Apogen, Mr. Speer was Vice President for Sensor Systems and a member of the Board of Directors for Innovative Technical Solutions, Inc., a technology company he co-founded in 1998 that specializes in spectral imaging and airborne remote sensing. Mr. Speer’s experience includes management and engineering roles developing systems for a wide range of visible and IR imaging applications, including aircraft, underwater, space, and medical systems; extensive work in submarine laser communications, including modeling, subsystem development, and testing; and fluorescence detection and imaging for medical applications.
Mr. Speer started his career in the Navy with operational assignments afloat and ashore, including several years with the Naval Ocean Systems Center in San Diego, CA as an Engineering Duty Officer developing and testing submarine laser communication systems. Mr. Speer subsequently held management and engineering roles in several companies, including positions in manufacturing and product development for SAI Technology at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).
Mr. Speer received his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1976 and a Master of Science degree in Physics from the Naval Post Graduate School in 1982. |
