Bonnie Spear

Dr. Spear is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and has secondary appointments in the School of Public Health and School of Health Related Professions. Her doctorate degree is in health promotion and disease prevention, allowing her to provide leadership in the area of educational evaluation. She has had over 20 years of experience working in adolescent health, as well as working with Title V agencies. She serves as the expert consultant to the American Dietetic Association's (ADA Partners in Program Planning for Adolescent Health, PIPPAH) cooperative agreement with the Office of Adolescent Health. She has authored several chapters on adolescent nutrition and is widely published in the field of adolescent health. She currently serves as Project Director for a MCHB-funded Leadership Training in Pediatric Nutrition and has just completed a Bright Futures Training Project (SPRANS CEU grant). She was Co-editor for the Bright Futures in Practice: Physical Activity Publication and was lead author on the middle childhood chapter for Bright Futures in Practice: Nutrition. She has been very active in ADA having served as President of the Alabama Dietetic Assocition, Chair of the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group and currently is one of the two elected delegates from Alabama. Outside of ADA, Dr. Spear has served as consultant and reviewer for the USDA's Team Nutrition Project and as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Health School initiative. In the fall of 2001, she served as a faculty member of the American Academy of Pediatric and Society of Adolescent Medicine review course for physicians who will be sitting for pediatric sub-specialty boards in Adolescent Medicine.
