As president of Nike Golf, Bob Wood is responsible for establishing Nike Golf as the most desired brand in golf around the world. Internally, among his accomplishments have been to establish Nike Golf as a successful, standalone division within Nike. Externally, Bob has worked to establish Nike Golf as the most diverse, single brand in golf that offers golfers everything from equipment, balls and clubs to footwear and apparel.
The golfing industry has already identified Nike Golf as one of the industry’s big four brands. Bob’s goal is to establish Nike Golf as the No. 1 brand in golf by aggressively pursuing opportunities and striving at all times to inspire and bring innovation to golfers.
Bob has received the 2002-2003 International Network of Golf Industry Award for Business Achievement. Outside of Nike, he enjoys skiing, hiking, backpacking and golf. He also likes to watch soccer and baseball, and enjoys playing acoustic and electric guitar.
Bob’s favorite Nike innovation is the company’s approach to advertising especially how it used advertising to change sports communication in the late 1980s. In the early 1980s, there were no sports brands on television and nobody thought about employing athletes to do sports marketing in a sophisticated way, he recalled. Nike changed all that, he said. It’s not just advertising,Bob added. The way our products communicate, the way we tell stories around product, the design of the products and how expressive they are, and how they reach people on an intuitive level is really something that we continue to do better than anyone else in our industry. It’s part of our ethic here, our DNA, our karma. |
