Dr. Martin has enjoyed a luminary career in telecommunications. His early positions at Bell Laboratories and later at Bellcore focused on large systems development. He had responsibilities for Unix development, network management systems, intelligent network systems, packet switching, and broadband access systems developments. He later joined Lucent Technologies, where he held several key leadership positions, culminating with his appointment as the Chief Technology Officer of Bell Laboratories. Bob received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Brown University in 1964, and his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1965 and 1967, respectively. In 1985, he attended the MIT Alfred P. Sloan School Senior Executive Program. A Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Bob was a member and first chair of its Software Industrial Advisory Board. He has served on the National Research Council's Computer Science and Telecommunications Board and the FCC's Technological Advisory Board. He is on technical advisory boards for venture capitalist’s and startups in telecommunications, optical devices & other innovative networking products. |
