Bob L. Martin is an independent business executive and retired president and CEO of Wal-Mart International, where he was responsible for units in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Korea, and Germany. Martin led the development and function of the company’s operating format into the international marketplace. These operating units included Wal-Mart discount stores, Wal-Mart Supercenters, and Sam’s Wholesale Club concepts.
Martin has nearly 30 years of retail experience, including 15 years with Dillard's department stores. He joined Wal-Mart in 1984, serving in several capacities before advancing to executive vice president and chief information officer. In 1993, he was promoted to president and CEO of Wal-Mart’s international division.
Martin continues to serve in leadership roles in many industry and professional organizations and boards. He serves on the board of directors for Sabre Holdings, Conn’s, Inc., Furniture Brands International, The Gap Inc., The Guitar Center, and Students in Free Enterprise. He also serves on the executive advisory board for the University of Arkansas.
He is a recipient of the prestigious International Mass Retailers Partnership Award, and was recognized by Carnegie Mellon University and American Management Systems for Achievement in Information Technology Management.
Martin attended South Texas University and holds an honorary doctorate from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
