Bill is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of strategic planning and
customer service.
After graduating from Northwestern University in 1964, Bill moved back to his hometown of Kansas City and founded Barkley & Evergreen (now Barkley) at the age of 21. While he had no clients at the time, he did have boundless energy and an uncompromising vision to build a world-class agency in Kansas City. Over the next three and a half decades, he did just that.
In 1997, Bill sold the agency to its employees, creating what is now the largest 100% employee owned agency in the country. Today, Bill remains active in the agency as a strategic consultant to agency management and several Barkley clients.
Among his many accomplishments, Bill was named the Kansas City Ad Man of the year and Inc. magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year in 1995. He is the author of two books on customer service: The Ten Commandments of Business and How to Break Them (GP Putnam Sons, 1991), and The Real Heroes of Business and Not a CEO Among Them (Doubleday, 1994), which was co-authored with former Harvard professor Len Schlesinger.
Bill is co founder of the Service Management Group, a customer satisfaction measurement and consulting company. He is also on the Board of Directors of Lockton, Inc. He has appeared on both Today and The Oprah Winfrey Show and was featured on a segment produced by CBS’ 48 Hours on customer service. |
