Bill Brock, former United States Congressman, Senator and Secretary of Labor.During his more that 30 years in public service, Bill has spearheaded numerous national reform efforts on education, including Workforce 2000, the National Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce, the Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS), and the Wingspread Group on Improving Higher Education. In 1993, as Chairman of the Wingspread Group, Bill published An American Imperative: Higher Expectations for Higher Education which proposed that higher education had to raise its standards, place more emphasis on students and values, and make a renewed commitment to improving elementary and secondary education. In 1995, Bill Brock was introduced to Dr. Mary Meeker and Dr. Robert Meeker. After learning of their success in developing multiple intelligences and their research-based Structure of Intellect paradigm (SOI), Bill began looking for ways to introduce SOI to school systems everywhere. The next year, Bill created the Bridges program to do just that. Today, Bridges programs serve tens of thousands of students across the USA. Bridges has proven that by assessing the cognitive and perceptual abilities that are critical to learning, and then strengthening the abilities that are weak, elementary and secondary school students can improve their academic performance dramatically. Assess. Profile. Develop. These are the steps that are helping students connect to learning. This is the dream of Bill Brock. This is Bridges. |
