Beverly J. Burke is Vice President and General Counsel for WGL Holdings Inc. and Washington Gas. She is responsible for coordinating the provision of legal counsel on matters that include employment labor and employee benefits issues as well as for providing advice and direction on several corporate projects and initiatives.
Before joining Washington Gas Ms. Burke served for twelve years in the Office of the Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia in the areas of civil litigation and appellate advocacy as well as in various supervisory positions within the Office. Earlier she was a law clerk to the Honorable Norma Holloway Johnson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
A graduate of Brown University and the National Law Center of George Washington University Ms. Burke has been a member of several national and local bar associations. She has participated in various committees of the District of Columbia Bar including the Children's Initiative Committee Legal Ethics Committee Nominations Committee and Screening Committee. She also was a member of the District of Columbia Courts Gender Bias Task Force. Ms. Burke currently is an instructor on the local rules of professional responsibility for the District of Columbia Bar and is a mediator for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Ms. Burke is a member of the board of directors of the Washington Performing Arts Society. Other community activities have included serving a two-year term as Second Vice President Lafayette Elementary Home and School Association assisting a local Boy Scout pack as a Den Leader and participating in various community service projects through her membership in a local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Ms. Burke is married to Gregory S. Saunders General Counsel of Sierra Military Health Services in Baltimore Maryland. They have two sons ages 15 and 11 and reside in northwest Washington D.C |
