Ms. Atkins has been the chief executive officer of Baja Ventures, an independent venture capital firm focused on the technology and life sciences industry, since 1994. Previously, Ms. Atkins served as chairman and chief executive officer of NCI, Inc., a functional food/nutraceutical company from 1991 through 1993. Ms. Atkins was a co-founder of Ascend Communications, Inc. in 1989, and a member of its board of directors, and served as its worldwide sales, marketing and international executive vice president prior to its acquisition by Lucent Technologies in 1999. Ms. Atkins currently serves on the board of directors of Polycom, Inc., Chico's FAS Inc., and SunPower Corporation, as well as a number of private companies. Ms. Atkins also was a presidential appointee to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation advisory committee and is a governor-appointed member of the Florida International University Board of Trustees. She has published and served as a keynote speaker on corporate board governance best practices for the National Association of Corporate Directors. |
