Bertrand Collomb was appointed to the Lafarge Board of Directors in 1987.
A graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Mines de Paris, he also holds a French law degree and a PhD in Management (University of Texas).
From 1966 to 1975, he worked with the French government and founded the Center for Management Research at the Ecole Polytechnique.
He joined Lafarge in 1975. After occupying several positions across the Group, notably as CEO of Lafarge Corporation, the North American arm of the Group, from 1985 to 1988, he was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge in August 1989.
Under his management, the Group grew rapidly and became the world leader in building materials. Convinced that the private sector has an important role to play in sustainable development, he drove the Group's policy in this area, the pioneering partnership with WWF being the most visible example.
He was Chairman of Lafarge from 2003 to 2007 before being appointed Honorary Chairman of Lafarge on May 3, 2007. He is also a company officer of several Lafarge Group subsidiaries.
His term of office expires at the General Meeting approving financial statements for the financial year ended 2008.
He is a director of Total, ATCO and DuPont and also plays an active role in several institutions. He is a director of the International Accounting Standards Foundation (IASF) and a member of the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT). He is Chairman of the Association Française des Entreprises Privées (AFEP) and Chairman of the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI). He is Vice Chairman of the Global Business Coalition against HIV/Aids (GBC). He was Chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in 2004 and 2005 and is still very active within this organization. He is a member of the Institut de France (Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques). In 2007, he was appointed Chairman of the Institut des Hautes Etudes pour la Science et la Technologie (IHEST).
Mr. Collomb holds 62,218 Lafarge shares. He is 64 years old. |
