Bernie Pliska has responsibility for worldwide oversight of the controllership function within Nike Finance. He is responsible for ensuring that Nike’s internal policies and procedures are reliable so that the company can produce accurate financial information for external reporting requirements required by the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also ensures that Nike’s financial systems are designed and used effectively so that the company can make good business decisions and efficiently monitor performance against financial goals. Before joining Nike, Bernie worked for Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) for 11 years, which included a two-year assignment in Windsor, England, and one year in New York City.Outside of Nike, Bernie serves as a board member for a high school whose mission includes educating and serving the poor. He also enjoys playing weekend golf and spending time with his wife and twin boys.Perspectives:As a spectator, the defining moment in sports for Bernie was when the Portland Trail Blazers won the 1977 NBA Finals. The team won with heart and teamwork, led by one of the most talented centers to ever play the game the big redhead, Bill Walton, he said.
