Dr. Bastian T. Arnold is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater LLP, based in its Munich office. He is a member of the European Competition group and the German telecom, media and technology (TMT) practice group, where his practice focuses on advising national and international companies from the IT, media, technology and telecommunications industries.
He provides advice on competition related issues, including merger control, horizontal and vertical restraints and abuse of dominant positions. In addition, Bastian’s litigation work encompasses patent infringement suits (inter alia SanDisk Corporation in MP3 patent litigation). Bastian takes a particular interest in the interface between the intellectual property and antitrust laws.
Bastian studied law at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and received there as well his Dr. jur. He obtained his LL.M. from Boston University School of Law in 2002, where he also worked as a research assistant. Prior to joining McDermott Will & Emery, Bastian worked for Professor Winfried Veelken at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he lectured on antitrust and intellectual property law and wrote his doctoral dissertation on the interface between the antitrust laws and trade secret protection.
Bastian is admitted to practice before all District Courts and Courts of Appeal in Germany. He is also admitted to the Bar of the State of New York. Bastian is fluent in English and German.
