Barry Rowland serves as Executive Vice President in the firm’s Pittsburgh, PA office. He is also a member of DHR’s Education Practice Group. Prior to joining DHR, Mr. Rowland was Executive Director of BDR Training and Consulting Services primarily involved in educational searches and strategic planning training. Since 2000, he has worked extensively as a Senior Search Consultant, specializing in searches for Charter School Heads throughout the United States. In addition, he is a Consultant Superintendent to the Toronto District School Board and Director of Education for the Bryst International Student Athlete Scholarship Program. Previously, Mr. Rowland served as Superintendent of Schools in the City of York, Toronto, Canada from 1985-1998 with major responsibilities in the areas of strategic planning, human resources, special education programs/services, school safety and security, supervision and evaluation of elementary/secondary principals, and secondary school staffing. Prior to that he served as a school administrator and teacher for 22 years. Mr. Rowland's impressive list of civic and educational activities include: Municipal Councilor, City of York, Toronto [1991-1998]; Chair, City of York Municipal Labour-Management Board, Administrative Services Committee, Works and Parks Committee; Chair, York Board Secondary School Strategic Planning Principals' Committee; Chair/Member Supervised Alternative Learning Committee, Special Education Advisory Committee and Board Committee on Policies and Procedures for Safety and Security in Schools; Chair/Member, Ontario Secondary School Headmasters' Council, Central Region and Ontario Secondary School Headmasters' Council; workshop presenter for IMTEC at their International Strategic Planning Conferences [Denver, Amsterdam and Oxford], the N.E.A. and the Russia Educational Authority. Mr. Rowland received a B.P.H.E and B.A. in education from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He also earned an M.Ed. in educational administration and special education, from the Ontario Institute of Educational Studies, University of Toronto. Mr. Rowland holds teaching certification in English, Latin, Physical and Health Education as well as Principal and Superintendent Certification from the Ontario Ministry of Education [Canada]. After an outstanding football and hockey career at the University of Toronto, Mr. Rowland played professional football in both the Canadian and Continental Football Leagues. He also represented Canada in International Rugby. He is a published author with four books detailing Canada's role in the Second World War. |
